Douglas Cox Viola Opus 868 ~ 1558” Guarneri

The viola bears the label“Douglas C. Cox, Brattleboro, Vermont, 2015 #868” and is branded and initialed on the inside. It is styled after the late work of Joseph Guarnerius “del Gesu”. It is made of well aged New England grown wood. The back is cut on the quarter from two pieces of maple with hadnsome medium width flames descending from the bass side. The neck and ribs are of maple similar to that of the back. The table is of two pieces of spruce of narrow to medium growth. The varnish is of a red-brown color and is shaded and imitated. The fittings are of rosewood.
